I have a Lenovo R61 which gave up on me last week. Yes, I know. It's an ancient lappy.

The fan hadn't been 'fanning' the right way for a while and had been quite noisy, in fact.

In my frustration, I slammed the lappy against the wall.

Needless to say, it refused to even switch back on.

Thus, I decided to put it to sleep forever ... but obviously, I have to remove the 500gb hard drive so I can use it as a portable drive for random stuff.

Anyways, my question is : if the laptop isn't switching on, would the hard drive still work?

If you didn't completely smash the hard drive in destroying the exterior, than yes. The hard drive usually isn't what breaks down like that.

People waste hard drives from old laptops way too often. I see people just pitching laptops all the time. There's always some good stuff inside to salvage!
