I found this on another forum. It is epically epic in stupidity. Apparently, the guy (or probably girl) didn't feel like changing their oil for 40,000 miles! Shocked Wat?????  facepalm

I'm amazed it went that long without breaking the timing chain. That is a well made engine.

I change my oil all the time.  It all goes down to parents.  The parents never told their kids this and this person never learned it from their parents.  Oil changes are necessary and since we are on this topic, parents need to look at their kid's homework.  Stop being outsmarted by your kids.  I have no kids but my job deals with stubborn kids all the time.  It's the parents, all I have to say.

Agreed, however sometimes it actually can be the kids that are at fault. Parent's can teach and help with such duties all they want but if the the kid doesn't want to do it for reasons such as plain laziness, what can the parents really do to make them do it, beat them?

That is one strong bmw engine to survive as long as it did in that condition.

3000 to 5000 miles = oil change, about every month for me with how much I drive.

I will say epic fail. Bmw does make strong engines which is good or that engine would have been done for.
